Application Timeline

The Peace Corps Application is famous for taking a while. To keep track, here is my timeline:

August 18th, 2011 - Started Application.

September 22nd, 2011 - Entire Application Submitted.

September 28th, 2011 - Heard from Chicago Peace Corps Offices. Filled out extra addendums.

(Sometime in between, I received a few forms in the mail that I filled out and sent in.)

October 5th, 2011 - Received recruiter's name. Hi, Rok!

October 14th, 2011 - First email from recruiter. Invited for interview. Literally called him within seconds of receiving the email.

October 27th, 2011 - Had interview downtown at PC Chicago Offices. Was told to email at the end of the month if I don't hear from him first about a nomination.

November 27th, 2011 - Emailed Rok, received response next day stating that spots for early 2013 jobs are being filled within the next month. Will hopefully hear about nomination within the next few weeks.

December 1st, 2011 - Received an email from Rok stating that I had not been nominated yet. Was told to work on building up my volunteer resume, and contact him by February 11th if I'm still interesting in being nominated in March. Contacted him right away. Began researching English Tutoring/Teaching programs in my area.

December 15th, 2011 - Started TEFL online certification course, which includes 120hrs of online lessons and 20hrs of in-person training with a professional tutor. Ended up being just the online, due to low registration for on-site training in my area.

January 9th, 2012 - Began tutoring/aiding at my old high school. Emailed recruiter on the 10th to update him.

January 23th, 2012 - Officially nominated for service in the Peace Corps!!! I was notified on the 24th, however, so I'm sticking with that.

February 2nd, 2012 - Received PC medical paperwork. Started making appointments!

April 20th, 2012 - Finally sent in all PC medical paperwork.

April 30th, 2012 - Peace Corps received all paperwork.

May 5th, 2012 - Graduated from Northeastern Illinois University!

June 16th, 2012 - Dental Clearance!!!

June 18th, 2012 - Faxed requested info from gyno. Nurse said, apart from missing report, my file is "very complete."

June 20th, 2012 - Medical evaluation complete. To quote the website, "A decision has been reached regarding your medical review. Please look for a letter in the mail." Seemed ominous, but I Googled it and I think it's a good sign (knocks frantically on wood). Patiently awaiting aforementioned letter...

June 20th, 2012 - Later that day... Okay, so, I got a call from my placement officer, Heather, we spoke for a bit and I've been officially invited! My invitation should, hopefully, be sent out by the end of the week. So. Excited. More back once my official invite is clutched in my shaking, overjoyed, nervous hands.

June 26th, 2012 - Invite arrived! I'm headed to Ukraine! I'm to leave in September. I intend to email my acceptance tomorrow. Taking the time to read up on all of everything today. Crazy excited, obv.
